"How to Become an Angel Investor and Support Egypt’s Booming Startups?" is a series of webinars launched by GIZ Egypt in partnership with Startups Without Borders. This series of webinars offer an opportunity to learn about Egypt's high-potential startups and support them through mentorship or angel investment.
Egypt is Africa’s second-biggest economy with a GDP of $362 B, according to Statista. Its capital, Cairo, was also ranked by Forbes as one of the world’s top 10 cities in which to launch a startup.
These factors make Egypt a potential startup powerhouse on the continent, and it has started living up to it.
The number of investments and deals brokered in the Egyptian startup sector is witnessing unprecedented growth, reaching $194 Million in the first half (H1) of 2021, according to the CEO of Egypt’s e-Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Amr Mahfouz. This Egypt concentates 26% of all deals in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
In 2021, there have been fourteen deals for over $150 Million in 2021, not to mention Swvl's $1,5 Billion merge with SPAC.
